Petition updateOPPOSE CALIFORNIA BILL #1998: PAINED LIVES MATTER! DON'T MAKE OPIOID PRESCRIBING CRIMINALPained Lives Matter: LAWS SHOULD REFLECT THE PEOPLE
Jeffrey Grolig M.D.Redding, CA, United States
Apr 11, 2018
Laws are passed in our democracy through majority vote and representation. We have 100 million patients suffering from chronic pain in the United States that require access to pain management. Responsible prescribing of Opioid Medication is part of this. Drug Overdoses [illegal + prescribed] are on the rise in our country; however prescription drug overdoses are on the decline. Prescribed Opioids have declined 20% the past 5 years according to the CDC. The rising use of illegal Heroin [with tens of thousands annual deaths] should not lead to the creation of new laws criminalizing prescribed opioids which will create suffering for tens of millions of chronic pain patients who take their medications appropriately. Not to mention tens of thousands of additional chronic pain patient annual suicides.
