EMS Bans Student Phones For 2018/2019 - AND - We Are Getting Media Attention!

Here’s the latest: 1.) We have learned that Jefferson County’s Evergreen Middle School, with the “unanimous support of the staff, PTA and school accountability” is publicly stating smartphones are not considered a 1:1 device and they are “not permitted” between the bells (7:55 - 2:50) - “This includes lunch, recess and hallways.” We applaud Principal Vialpando’s leadership! 2.) We are thrilled to report there have been some significant media inquiries! Stay tuned!! It seems we may have at least 15 minutes of fame in the weeks ahead! 3.) Dr. Dunckley, author of “Reset Your Child’s Brain” gave us her public blessing this past week! She stated she was supporting our petition because smartphone “.. use in children and teens is linked to depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, lower grades, emotional dysregulation, attention issues and social deficits.” Dr Dunckley's endorsement speaks volumes. HER WORK IS SOUNDING THE ALARM and is making a compelling case for an “unrecognized disorder'. As a reminder, we are seeking district wide consistency as it relates to student smartphone use in our middle schools. So we are asking the JeffCo School Board to formally support school administrators so they don’t have to endure the cycle of emotional debate with families and students. We are asking them to publish an evidenced based message - through a district wide policy - to be our trusted advisors and the educated adult.
