Amazon Should Implement 2-Factor Authentication For It's Non-AWS Customers
The Issue
Who doesn't love a deal? Amazon is chock full of them. Who doesn't love amazing customer service? Amazon has this down pat. This winning combo has turned me into a loyal Amazon customer who loves using their platform.
There are Millions of consumers who purchase goods on Amazon every year. I am one of those Millions of Amazon customers who unquestioningly have accumulated a large purchase history alongside my payment information in my Amazon account.
The data Amazon has collected about it's customers is protected solely by an email and password combination. This type of security has been defeated by computer hackers by using a mix of technical and social hacking methods to break into others accounts. From my perspective, as an Amazon customer, their existing security solution is not adequate for todays world. There has been a better solution called Two Factor Authentication (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-factor_authentication) available for a while and it's been implemented by almost all other large tech companies including both Google and Apple.
Why post this now? Amazon chose to implement Two Factor Authentication for it's Amazon Web Service customers years ago (http://www.pcworld.com/article/243113/amazon_adds_app_for_easier_twofactor_authentication.html). Apparently this security is important enough for it's corporate clients but not for the consumers who value their service.
I am starting this petition to bring awareness to the issue. If there are enough people who share this concern I'm hoping it will encourage Amazon to implement Two Factor Authentication for it's consumers accounts.
Together, let's let Jeff Bezos and the rest of the Amazon tech team know this is important to their customers.
