What does not fit is made fit — the promotion of the Spanish judge Pablo Llarena

Prof. Dr. Axel Schönberger

Sep 23, 2018 —

According to Spanish press reports, it seems that Pablo Llarena's appointment as Spain's Supreme Court Judge was done through corruption (as an advantage) and that certain representatives of the post-democratic Spanish state may have been planning since 2015 to use Pablo Llarena as the investigating judge to jail leading Catalan representatives.

Already on 18 March 2016, the Spanish Association «Judges for Democracy» protested against the appointment of Pablo Llarena as Supreme Court Judge, which, in her opinion, had infringed on the principle of Article 23 of the Spanish Constitution that such an appointment must be done according to the principle of personal aptitude and competence. Even his appointment as examining magistrate in the case of Catalan politicians was apparently contrary to the guidelines of the Supreme Court. According to these, five other judges would have been considered before Pablo Llarena.

The more it comes to light, the more it seems as if the Spanish government of the Partido Popular, in collusive interplay with parts of the judiciary, has been preparing a «decapitation strike» against Catalonia for years. Insofar as all of this was further substantiated and proved true, it would be essential that the United Nations demand the extradition of the Spanish politicians and judges who would have been involved in such a plot against the Catalan people to be brought before an international tribunal. The largely corrupt and not impartial Spanish judiciary should not be left to deal with this injustice, in which a large part of the judiciary appears to be involved.
