Students across the district complain consistently about waking up at 4, 5, or 6 to catch a bus and get to school at 7:40 am. Waking up early is unhealthy for teenage bodies as we are still growing. Multiple studies have shown that teenagers need a later wake up time in order to increase performance. School starting at 7:40 am is simply way too early and there is no reason for it to be that way. Having an 8 hour school day along with piles of homework, tests to study for, and after school activities leave students feeling tired and fatigued with the simple hope that they can make it until the end of the week. Having a 6 hour school day will benefit students and give students freedom to express themselves creatively. This proposal has more benefits than takeaways.
