Puyallup Water Warriors & Redefine Tacoma

Jun 5, 2018
Dear Friends,
Even as we are fighting to end fracking and our dependence on fossil fuels, Puget Sound Energy wants to double the amount of fracked gas going to north Seattle homes. Expanding the existing pipeline puts 15 streams at risk as well as the threatened salmon who spawn in them. And most of the route runs through an EPA-designated aquifer, putting critical water resources at risk. Sound like a good idea? Not by a long shot!

Get your comment in by the Washington Department of Ecology deadline on Thursday, June 7th! We are asking WDOE to deny the project's 401 Water Quality Certification. https://bit.ly/2JxyNDy
Last month when the Sightline Institute broke this story, they found that this project:
Causes a 3% increase in state carbon emissions by itself, when we should be doing all we can to reduce them;
Has an unnecessary 63% increase in fracked gas capacity; current capacity isn’t maxed out;
Disrupts 15 streams, including Little Bear Creek, Evans Creek, Tambark Creek, Great Dane Creek and their tributaries;
Harms already threatened Chinook salmon, which are essential to the survival of our local orca population;
Results in piecemeal growth in fracked gas infrastructure that slows our transition to a fossil free future.
Let the Department of Ecology know, this project's negative impacts on climate and water quality can't be ignored any more than its long-term impact on our climate can!
Together we can stop this,
Sara, Bob, Stacy, Kaytlyn, David and the whole NSLU team
PS Sightline called it “The Seattle Pipeline Expansion You’ve Never Heard Of” -- read about it here: https://bit.ly/2Hp4GsU
