Call for International Action against Fukushima Radioactive Water Dumping in the Pacific
To Social and Environmental Activists Worldwide,
The Korean coalition,
Peoples' Action to Stop Dumping of Fukushima Radioactive Water, would like to ask you to join international joint action on World Ocean Day, June 8, to stop the dumping of Fukushima Radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean.
People's Action to Stop
Dumping of Fukushima Radioactive Water is a national Korean people's network of
environmental organizations, farmers, fisherfolk, workers’ unions, and civil
society organizations.
The Japanese government is
going to dump radioactive water this summer as planned irrespective of concerns
raised by global civil society, including:
The
Failure of the Tokyo Electric Power Company to follow the United Nations
Convention on the Law of the Sea(UNCLOS), when it wrote “The Assessment of Radiological
Impact on Public and Environment.”
The
fact dumping of Fukushima water into the Pacific does NOT COMPLY with
International Regulations such as the IAEA Safety Standards for protecting
people and the Environment (GSG-8) and the United Nations Convention on the Law
of the Sea.
The
Failure of the Japanese government to seriously consider Storing Fukushima
Wastewater with Solidification with Concrete ON LAND.
The
fact that Fukushima wastewater is expected to continue DISCHARGING for more than 30 YEARS contaminating the Pacific Ocean.
We call on individuals and
groups worldwide to call on the Japanese government to stop the dumping of
Fukushima wastewater into the Pacific and instead store the waste in concrete
tanks on land. We call for the following actions:

sign the joint statement below as individuals and/or organizations BY JUNE 5.
It will be sent to the Japanese government and the IAEA.
2. Please
incorporate the slogans below into your World Ocean Day campaigns.
