Yesterday, Lee Yong-soo sent a message to Mr. Fumio Kishida, who was just elected as Japanese Prime Minister and is the new President of the Liberal Democratic Party.
Kishida was the Japanese spokesperson for the 2015 press announcement between South Korea and Japan, which excluded the survivors from negotiations and has enabled the Japanese government's ongoing distortion of historical facts.
There was no public apology made or signed by Japan as part of the 2015 announcement, contrary to many media reports.
At the end of the message, Lee Yong-soo halmoni reiterates:
"To fulfill its promise of eradicating sexual violence in armed conflict, the Japanese government must guarantee that it will never again repeat such violence by confronting the historical fact that it committed crimes against 'comfort women' victims.
I will not shut my eyes until the ‘comfort women’ issue is resolved."
The message is also available at the YouTube channel for the Daegu Citizens' Forum for the Halmuni, a long-time champion for Grandma Lee.
