No Budget Cuts, Fix the Roof/No a recortes presupuestarios, Arreglar el techo

We are writing to oppose CPS’s cut of $100,000 year over year to the Kilmer Elementary School Budget, including an almost $70,000 cut announced after the school year had begun. These cuts are being made despite a promise from CPS not to cut budgets this year. Further, these cuts are not being proposed due to a financial shortfall, instead they are being done pursuant to a funding formula that does not consider the needs of our school and the children it serves. 

Proposing such a cut after the school year has begun is unfairly disruptive to the students, teachers and staff. Further it is extremely disruptive the running of the school as planning, hiring and commitments of funds have already been done based on the original budget.

Further, we are writing to ask CPS to immediately act to repair the roof, the brick siding (tuck pointing) and interior walls and ceiling, at Kilmer. The leaking roof is causing extensive damage to the building. Allowing this damage to a CPS asset to continue, shows a lack of concern for CPS resources. It also sends a strong 
message to our students that they don’t deserve a safe, secure and pleasant learning environment.

Estamos escribiendo para oponernos a la reducción por CPS de $ 100,000 por año al Presupuesto de la Escuela Kilmer, que incluye una reducción de casi $ 70,000, anunciada después del inicio del año escolar. Estos recortes se están haciendo a pesar de la promesa de CPS de no recortar presupuestos este año. Además, estos recortes no se proponen debido a un déficit financiero, sino que se realizan de conformidad con un formal de financiamiento que no tiene en cuenta las necesidades de nuestra escuela y los niños a los que sirve.

Proponer un recorte de este tipo después del comienzo del año escolar es injustamente perjudicial para los estudiantes, maestros y personal. Además, es extremadamente perjudicial para el funcionamiento de la escuela, ya que la planificación, la contratación y los compromisos de fondos ya se han hecho sobre la base del presupuesto original.

Además, le escribimos para pedirle a CPS que actúe de inmediato para reparar el techo, el revestimiento de ladrillo (apuntalando) y las paredes interiores y el techo de Kilmer. El techo con fugas está causando grandes daños al edificio. Permitir que este daño a un edificio de CPS continúe muestra una falta de preocupación por los recursos de CPS. También envía un fuerte mensaje a nuestros estudiantes de que no merecen un ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y agradable.
