Many of you here may be following ViệtSpeak because of our original campaign to save the bilingual program at Footscray Primary School in 2020. With the State Election coming up in November this year, we are excited to let you know that we are launching a campaign to re-establish a Vietnamese bilingual program in Melbourne’s west.
After all these years, Vietnamese remains the most widely spoken language after English in the west - yet there are no bilingual primary programs. We have spent the last six years rebuilding, supporting the establishment of bilingual kindergartens, connecting with families, teachers and community leaders, and creating a proposal for the Department that outlines a pathway to re-establish a well-resourced, sustainable Vietnamese bilingual primary school program.
We’ve done the work - now it’s time for political leaders to act.
