After over a month of petitioning to cancel or change the segment, James Corden has finally responded, telling Howard Stern that he won't be using Asian foods on his show again. In his statement, he did not apologize for the harm that profiting from these foods in a negative light causes to AAPI communities or to the people who still eat those foods, or to the cultures from which these foods originated from.
The statement is a non-apology and no accountability was taken. However, due to the amount of hate that I have been getting for the past month about the petition, I have decided to end the petition and will settle for James Corden's statement.
I hope that this petition teaches the public that our foods are deeply rooted within our Asian cultures. There is a way to be respectful about the foods you consume from other cultures, even if you don't personally like them. Also, I hope this pushes more Asian diversity in Hollywood! We need more Asian writers, hosts, storytellers, actors, and directors, to tell our narratives in an accurate light.
