Across the entire country of India, thousands of children are exploited daily to mine mica. These children are paid inhumane wages, are unable to go to school, and they risk injury and/or death to harvest mica. Mica is an ingredient used in many beauty products to create a shimmery glow.

Beauty influencer James Charles collaborated with Morphe to create the James Charles palette- a palette whose first ingredient is mica. Millions of James' fans have bought this palette. If unethical mica was used in this palette, that means thousands of Indian children could have been abused to make it.

I am calling on James Charles and Morphe to investigate whether or not their mica is ethically harvested. I demand a statement to be formally issued on the current state of your mica source/sources. If it is not ethically harvested, James Charles and Morphe should stop selling the James Charles X Morphe palette until they change the formulas of their products to include either synthetic or ethically harvested, fair trade mica.

James, as an influencer with 16.2 million followers on Instagram and 16.5 million subscribers on Youtube, you have a huge platform to spread your influence. Make your influence is a positive one by making sure that you are using mica from ethical sources. Being complacent in the abuse of children is never a cute look.

Morphe, as a leader in the beauty industry, you hold the power to change the industry for the better. Don't be pathetic, be empathetic. These poverty-stricken children do not deserve to be exploited just so some consumers can be beautifully sparkly. If your makeup includes unethically sourced mica, you are abusing fundamental human rights.

Ulta, as a premier beauty store, carrying unethical products is a serious detriment to your brand image. If any of the products that you carry contain unethically sourced mica, including the James Charles x Morphe palette, I will have no choice but to stage protests in store and on all forms of social media against your brand.
