Select Margaret Chase Smith as the woman to feature on the new ten dollar bill as she is most deserving and has certainly been a champion for our inclusive democracy having served 32 total years, first as a U.S. Representative, and later as U.S. Senator.

The Issue

Margaret Chase Smith is most deserving having served this country as a U.S. representative beginning in 1940, and later as U.S. Senator for a total of 32 years.  She was certainly a champion for our inclusive democracy.  After four terms in the House, she won election to the United States Senate in 1948. In so doing, she became the first woman elected to both houses of Congress.  She also had the distinguished honor of being the first woman, whose name was placed in nomination for President of a major political party. She served her country admirably and honorably as a well-respected member of both Houses of Congress and was not afraid to speak her own conscience.
