In the magazine THE WALRUS, Robert Jago writes, "Many (letters on her website) promote common stereotypes and tropes about First Nations people. These tropes include the claims that First Nations people don’t pay taxes and that chiefs or councils are generally corrupt and misspend federal money. Besides these, there are criticisms of Indigenous people as a race, including statements about how Indigenous cultures are inherently harmful, how Indigenous men are predatory, how Indigenous people are lazy and don’t work, and how Indigenous people are stuck in the past."
"It is inconceivable that the content of these letters, posted by Senator Beyak, would be seen as tolerable if the target were any group other than Indigenous people. Is there a senator who would publish a letter saying that Jewish Canadians “lead a life of dissipation”? Is there one that would publish a letter complaining about Sikh Canadians, saying they have “a culture which is often damaging to new generations”? Would any senator publish a letter saying that members of the LGBT community “need to grow up”?
