Publicly fund St John Ambulance Services

The issue

It was St John who risked their own lives by driving into a bloody crime scene with an active shooter still at large on Friday the 15th, 2019, in Christchurch.

It was St John who saved the lives of 50 people shot during this event.

St John Ambulance Service provides life-saving emergency services to New Zealanders. Yet, unlike other emergency services in New Zealand, St John is not fully funded by the government. Instead, it is a charity relying significantly on donations.

Government and community funding from the Ministry of Health and ACC fund approximately 74% of St John ambulance operating costs, with the shortfall being made up by individual donations and commercial activities such as first aid training.

St John staff risk their lives everyday to save others'. It makes no sense that such a vital service in our communities should have to rely on charitable donations to continue to do the life-saving work that they do.

Sign this petition now and send a message to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Minister of Health David Clark to fully fund the St John Ambulance Service.
