So we've made it to 2,000 signatures. Thank you to each and every person who signed (sometimes twice!), who shared, and who resisted telling me to 'go away' when I asked for yet another round of retweets to spread the word about the #Izzyconcert2018 fan petition asking our talented hero Mr Izzy Stradlin to think about putting on a live concert, or livestream, or pre-recorded video, anything, so we could celebrate his solo music and show him how much we love him and enjoy being his fans.

I'm actually writing this with eight signatures to go to get to 2,000, and, suddenly, I have the urge to tell the story about how this petition came about. Which is apparently the wrong way to go about this. Read any petition 'how-to' manual and it will tell you that you have to tell "your story", to connect with readers on an emotional level bla bla bla. But at this point, it doesn't really matter anymore.

All I wanted to say was that this petition wasn't any great long thought-out campaign, discussed over Skype or in boardrooms with flipcharts and targets and key performance indicators etc. It was just a humble, home-made little thing. I came up with the idea for it on Friday 27 July 2018 at 4am, while washing the dishes, and decided to post it as the weekly Izzy poll/quiz in the Izzy Stradlin Fans group on Facebook. The petition blossomed and grew thanks to the hundreds (now thousands) of Izzy fans in that Facebook group, #TeamIzzy, who stood unwaveringly by the petition to the very end.

Nearly three and a half months later, after all kinds of ups and downs - including several frustrating lulls in signature pickup, an unexpected amount of online abuse, and the humiliation of being ignored by most of the journalists/celebrities we reached out to; all of which played out alongside the joy of hitting our first 1k, the excitement of online media coverage, and the long-lasting hope that Izzy would respond eventually - it's now time to put this baby to bed.

May it wake up someday to see its dream come true.
