The first novel has been split into 4 ebook instalments that shall be released monthly starting from 13th July. I would like to take this opportunity to completely refute that!! I started this petition as soon as I saw the announcement from the cast that the show had been axed. I fully intended to get other fans together so we could try to show ITV what a huge mistake they had made. Luckily many thousands agreed with me. For over a year, a large number of fans spent hours writing letters, emails, joining in with Twitterstorms, putting up posters and even sending jam, to get our voices heard. The campaign grew and grew and we had lost of media coverage. The fact that Simon Block, The writer of Home Fires, wanted to continue his stories in book form, came about because of the outpouring of love he saw from the campaign. He has said this many times. I have no personal reward for sales of the books (apart from pride that our campaign kick started the whole project). I am not part of the publishing company. I have never had anything to do with the contract between them and Simon. This campaign HAS NOT IN ANY WAY been set up "to sell books". It was started with a love of a TV show and continues to be exactly that. We tried so hard to get another channel to buy the rights, as did the production company, but sadly at this moment in time, that proved unsuccessful. Of course, we will never give up hope that one day, we may see it brought back, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. We could have decided to just give up and let the whole campaign slip away, but we chose not to. We have built a really friendly community on our Facebook groups. We have new friendships created and somewhere for people to chat about their lives, the show, other shows, books etc... We will not just get rid of that because some feel we should talk only about saving the show. The fact that Home Fires will continue in book form is something wonderful for most fans. Of course there will be some of you who aren't happy about it and aren't interested in reading them and if that is the case, we thank you so much for trying to help us save the show and we suggest that you just delete these emails when they arrive if you no longer wish to be a part of the campaign. Each and every one of you has helped to show just how much ITV screwed up, so thank you. For those who are looking forward to the books, we thank you for your support and we hope you'll continue to join us in thanking and supporting Simon Block, for giving us more of those wonderful stories we all loved. By supporting the upcoming books, we aren't forgetting the TV show, we are continuing to show our love for it. It's not what we all hoped for to start with but it's something we have to accept. Personally, and I know many of you agree with me, I would prefer to continue those stories in book form rather than never know what happens to those characters. That is purely as I love the show, the stories told and those characters. To be accused of conning people or trying to sell books is not only completely false, it's also hurtful. So I hope this puts an end to unfounded accusations as myself and others, who have worked hard for over a year, don't deserve that. Thank you for kind messages i've had so far.
