Wow!! We had NO idea the community would unite so quickly around the need for a #RENTFREEZENOW — we got over 1200 signatures in just 24 hours!
This morning, representatives from the Workers’ Center, the Ithaca Tenants’ Union, and many other orgs along with Mayor Svante came together for a digital meeting to plan the next steps of the community response. Several of them agreed to lend a hand in bringing thousands of Ithacans together to demand a Rent Freeze. We, the 70% of Ithacans who live in rented housing, deserve a say in our financial security during this crisis — and joining together as an emergency Tenants’ Union is our best bet at getting it.
Signing the petition was step 1. Step 2 is using our collective power to increase the pressure, by signing up for the Ithaca Tenants’ Union here. To the many of you who have lost jobs — we will need volunteering help to make our voices louder! Reach out if you’d like to help sound the call to Stop the Bleeding — RENT FREEZE NOW!
