We need to attend this meeting, show our state rep our support for reforming Condo law and that we will not back down until there are laws that protect owners. It's been too long this issue has been going on 12 years+ and legislators are NOT LISTENING to their constituents because there are special interests involved. In attachment is a proposal by former state rep Julio Robaina from January 21, 2004 that includes of many proposals background checks for anyone wanting to be a board member. I totally agree Board Members have access to our personal information social security #'s, Date of Birth, Drivers license etc. can someone say Identity Theft. As owners we don't know who these
people are but they have access to our personal information. if HIPPA protects our personal info in the medical arena why is there no scrutiny in HOA/Condominiums. We demand change. The only ones that are benefiting from HOA/condo owners misery is attorneys, management companies,
and corrupt board members (who some as we know from hundreds of articles on the news get kickbacks from vendors. Corruption at our doorsteps, in our homes. The laws need to be changed to protect condo owners. Our rights as individuals cannot not be trampled on by the apathy of the many; unfortunately there are not more owners that get involved in our buildings as many of us have experienced but for those who are involved our rights matter & that's enough to demand change! The solution is not only to vote corrupt boards out or do a recall I have tried is not easy and not only that who answers for the thousands in some cases millions of dollars that have been mismanaged and misspent. This corruption affects our families we are burdened by this emotional and financial stress inflicted by dictatorial boards and management companies. If our lawmakers cannot address something as important as their Constituents homes then I really don't know what can be more important than that. This should be the priority for election year 2016...our homes matter and our state government needs to address this issue immediately the DBPR as it stands now is not effective the burden is out entirely on owners and we are the victims.
