The Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Single Girl Child Fellowship is a crucial support scheme for single girl PhD scholars across India.

However, no fresh notification has been issued for this fellowship after the year 2022. As a result, many eligible single girl scholars who enrolled in PhD programmes in recent years are unable to apply and continue their research with financial security.

An RTI reply received from UGC confirms that while the scheme is active and disbursements are being made to existing beneficiaries, matters related to the scheme are under consideration of higher authorities, and no new call has been announced so far.

We, the undersigned research scholars, respectfully request the University Grants Commission to kindly issue a fresh notification for the Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Single Girl Child Fellowship or clearly communicate a tentative timeline for the same.

This fellowship plays a vital role in promoting higher education and research among women, and its timely continuation is essential for academic equity and social justice.

We sincerely hope UGC will take immediate and favourable action in this regard.
