This Thursday -- November 9, 2017 -- the present IRS Commissioner, 78 year old John Koskinen, terms out after five years and leaves office. President Trump's nomination to replace Mr. Koskinen is not known at present. The US Senate is required to approved the President's nominee. "President Trump announced Thursday that David Kautter, the Treasury Department’s assistant secretary for tax policy, will serve as acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. He will continue to carry out his Treasury responsibilities "while we wait to confirm a permanent commissioner," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement. Kautter will begin November 13, one day after Koskinen's term expires. “Assistant Secretary Kautter has had an illustrious 40-year career in tax policy, and I am confident that the IRS and the American people will benefit from his experience and insight," Mnuchin said. ****** What does this means for our petition demanding that the IRS Commissioner open an investigation into the Church of Scientology's tax exemption? It simply means that the petition will remain running and gathering signatures until the new Commissioner has been confirmed by the Senate. In the interim, the Church of Scientology continues to be relentlessly exposed in the media for being the brutal, greedy, and dishonest organization that is. I have always said the Church of Scientology is inherently self-destructive. While we await the appointment of the new IRS Commissioner, Scientology itself may act in a way, or be caught acting in a way, that compels the acting Commissioner to open an investigation.
