Rescued in Spain: Irish greyhound crawling in blood sucking ticks 

Dog rescue charity Galgos del Sol is reporting that a neglected Irish greyhound crawling in blood sucking ticks has been rescued in Spain.

The greyhound, named Stylish Playboy, "was exported from Ireland to a hunter here just a few months ago and in this short time in Spain he was left covered in ticks and fleas, resulting in red sore skin patches on his body".

The greyhound, who they said was "passed around like work tools" and "clearly had not lived up to expectations for the trainer or the hunter", is being relocated to the UK through Greyhound Protection UK.

There is no indication on the Greyhound Racing Ireland website that the greyhound named Stylish Playboy was exported. It shows that he was used in 10 races at Cork and Youghal tracks between November 2025 and May 2026. In his last two races, he finished second last.

Hundreds of Irish greyhounds are believed to be shamefully exported to Spain every year, despite the fact that in Spain, greyhounds/galgos are abused and routinely shot, hung from trees and mercilessly thrown down wells to die when they have outlived their usefulness.

Among the other unfortunate Irish greyhounds to have previously ended up in Spain are Coreys Joy, who was filmed collapsed and exhausted “after being made to run next to a van for 18 miles”. Her rescuers described her as “completely broken mentally and physically”. Irish greyhound Josh (racing name “Daddys Cool”) was also rescued from Spain. The dog was found in “an awful condition” and is believed to have suffered whippings. Also saved from certain death was an emaciated Irish greyhound with a “terrible injury to his leg” who was found straying on a road in Murcia.
