Shame on Martin Ryan Transport and Midwest Tyres, sponsors of greyhound racing at Limerick Stadium.
According to a notice on the Greyhound Racing Ireland website, they “have combined and come on-board to sponsor” a Treaty Cup event which carries a first prize of €3,000. It adds that “entries are slow coming to hand”.
Limerick Stadium (headquarters of GRI) is one of the worst tracks in Ireland for injuries and deaths. In the past seven years along, 315 greyhounds suffered injuries there and 94 died or were killed by a track vet. This includes 38 injuries and 11 deaths last year.
Among the victims at the track was a greyhound who “collapsed and died after race” on 6 May 2021 – a post mortem “indicated cardiac arrest”. Another greyhound died at the end of a race with a “suspected heart attack”.

Don’t support companies that support greyhound racing.
Since 2001, the Irish Government has granted more than €1.5 Billion of scarce public funds to horse and greyhound racing. That’s €1,240 million for horse racing and €309 million for greyhound racing.
Contact Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe and demand an end to state funding to these two gambling activities which cause much suffering and death to animals. Tell them to redirect the funds to the many deserving charities, health/homeless/environmental groups, sports clubs, animal rescue centres, etc crying out for funding.
