“We have now removed Shelbourne Park from our website”: A big THANK YOU to Dublin Bus for this week deleting a greyhound racing page from its website.

Responding to an appeal from the Irish Council Against Blood Sports, the company removed Shelbourne Park from the “Bus it to Events” section of its site. The page had encouraged people to visit the track for a “great night out”. https://www.dublinbus.ie/Bus-it-to-Events/Venue-Information/?venueID=317

In an appeal to Dublin Bus, ICABS highlighted the suffering and death at Shelbourne Park.

At least 167 greyhounds suffered injuries there and 39 were killed by a track vet over the past five years alone, sickening Irish Greyhound Board statistics show. Among the victims are a greyhound who collapsed after a race last August and died of a heart attack and another who was carried away bleeding with a leg bone “popped out”.

At tracks around Ireland in the the same period, at least 1,813 greyhounds suffered injuries and 592 were killed.

The Dublin Bus move is in line with the policies of Tourism Ireland and Failte Ireland which have stopped promoting greyhound racing, due to fears that it damages Ireland's reputation as a tourist destination https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/ireland/shane-ross-immoral-dog-racing-will-deter-tourists-982nwhwb9

The horrors of greyhound racing were exposed in the "RTE Investigates: Greyhounds running for their lives" which revealed that 6,000 dogs are killed every year simply because they are not fast enough to win races. It included shocking scenes of dogs being delivered to a knackery to be shot in the head. One shot dog was seen writhing on the ground in agony as his merciless owner drove away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYTb2qBjlMM

Dublin Bus (https://www.dublinbus.ie is the latest in a growing list of companies that have rejected cruel greyhound racing. They include Eir Sport, Lonely Planet, Barry's Tea, FBD Insurance, Botanica International, Hyde Irish Whiskey, Tesco Ireland, Toyota Ireland, Electric Ireland, Applegreen, Thomas Cook/Jet Tours, Galway Crystal, Wilton Shopping Centre, etc.

If you are visiting Dublin in the future, please choose the Dublin Bus “Do Dublin” hop-on-hop-off green bus for tours around the city and Airlink Express which connects Dublin Airport with the city centre. Find out more at https://dodublin.ie/
