Greyhound money could have gone to hospices

This week, the people of Mayo got a hospice. The newly opened centre, which cost €10 million to build, was funded over the past twenty years.
In that time, successive governments have handed over a quarter of a billion euros to the greyhound racing industry. A quarter of a billion euros would have built 25 hospices. Almost every county in the country could be benefitting from the wonderful service provided by the hospice care movement if that money had been spent otherwise.
Instead, it was given to an industry which, as we now know, overbreeds and kills thousands of healthy dogs every year.
Is there no limit to the tolerance of the Irish public when it comes to the misuse of public funds?

Another €16.8 million of scarce public funds has been allocated to greyhound racing in Budget 2020. Since 2001, greyhound racing has received more than a quarter of a billion euros of taxpayers' money. Please contact your local TDs and demand that they stop this latest funding pledge by voting AGAINST the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2019 next month.
