Good evening y'all!

We're at 168 signatures! I absolutely cannot believe this. I never imagined that I would get this much support. I cannot thank you all enough for signing and sharing this petition. With every signature, we're spreading the word and making such a difference!

Please remember to share this often! The more signatures we get, the more this petition is featured in advertisements and is shown more often to Change.org users! Keep on spreading the word! We have until January 2022 to get as many signatures as we can before the Iowa Legislature meets again!

I wanted to give you guys a little history lesson on the price of Insulin since it has been found. I feel as though this will help put things into retrospect and even further solidify the need for this petition.

In 1921, Insulin was discovered by Frederick Banting, Charles Best, and James Collip. It was patented in 1923 to the University of Toronto for production purposes for only $1!

Since Insulin was in such in such high demand, the university granted Pharmaceutical companies the right to make it and also offered them the ability to improve the original formulation and patent anything they create. *WOW! The process was actually done with the benefit of human kind*

In 1941, a federal grand jury indicted three Insulin manufacturers for conspiracy to "unlawfully bring about arbitrary, uniform, and non-competitive prices for insulin and to prevent normal competition in the sale of the drug." They we're fined $5,000 each and corporate officers we're individually fined $1,500 an individual. So in other words, three Insulin manufacturers we're brought to a federal grand jury for making Insulin ACCESSIBLE and AFFORDABLE.

I'll save the rest of the mumble jumble, as this post is getting long, but as recent as 2016, Insulin costs has increased 593% over the last 13 years.

In 2013, the Insulin market was $21 billion, with North America being 52% of this, even though we only account for 7% of world-wide Insulin users.

Here is the link for those that are interested in more information. This is a presentation done back in 2016. https://professional.diabetes.org/files/media/Changing_Cost_Insulin.pdf

Thank you all for continuing to spread the word and support this petition. Don't forget to share!
