The Issue
We need a change in political direction in Ireland. Our current government, led by Micheál Martin TD and Simon Harris TD, has not provided the focus on the people that we need and deserve. Politicians should work for the people, not for themselves, and every day in office should be committed to providing value, fair opportunities, and supporting the success of all citizens in Ireland. It’s vital for our future that we have leaders who prioritize these values.
Article 6.1 of the Constitution of Ireland embodies the sovereign right of the people to determine the course of their government, stipulating that all powers of government derive, under God, from the people, whose right it is to designate the rulers of the state. This critical piece of constitutional law is in place to ensure that when the government no longer serves the best interests of the people, the citizens can demand a change.
Currently, the government is out of sync with the aspirations and hopes of the people it is supposed to represent. Fiduciary responsibilities are being neglected, fair opportunities are not evenly spread across our society, and an environment for thriving citizens is being curtailed by restrictive and misguided policies. We, therefore, call on Catherine Connolly to invoke Article 6.1 to revoke the mandate from the current government and ensure a general election is held in 2026, reflecting the people’s demand.
This petition is not just a symbolic gesture; it is a call to action for all individuals in Ireland who feel disenchanted with the status quo and wish for a new political chapter. By asking Catherine Connolly to stand up for the electorate, we seek a government that truly represents the people’s values and ambitions—a government that propels every citizen towards success and fairness in the social and economic spheres.
Sign this petition to make our voices heard and demand accountable representation that prioritizes the welfare and future of Ireland’s citizens.
