Update on the Formal Request for Investigation

Some Bad News and Some Hopeful News!

Well, we heard back from the City of Ottawa’s Integrity Commissioner.  And yes it’s bad news.  He decided against opening an investigation.  It seems he wants more of a “smoking gun” piece of evidence, which we can’t provide since so much was done secretly. 

But there is hopeful news too.  We requested the investigation based on two aspects of the Code of Conduct.  The Integrity Commissioner (IC) looked at the inappropriate use of influence, but ignored the aspect that “the public has a right to open government and transparent decision making”.  This aspect was totally ignored by the IC.  His response had no mention, at all, of transparency or open government. 

This is an opening, so we will resubmit a new beefed-up request with stronger emphasis on transparency. 

We’ve now got some experience in doing these formal requests.  We’ve also got some more help on legal wording.  I’m still hopeful we will succeed.  Momentum is still building. We are now over 4,500 signatures on our petition calling for an inquest!  These numbers are getting harder and harder for the politicians to ignore.  Please keep sharing the petition!  We can do this!
