Save Inchgreen’s Iconic Cranes
The Issue
The Greenock Telegraph reported on Monday 1st May this week that Clydeport intend to demolish the cranes at Inchgreen dry dock.
The Clyde Docks Preservation Initiative believe the cranes are an important feature of the Inverclyde skyline and (with the Govan cranes already lost without fanfare) they are of potential future interest in terms of the maritime heritage of the Clyde.
Clyde Docks Preservation Initiative are in the process of applying to Historic Environment Scotland for the cranes to be designated as listed buildings.
Though we welcome the investment to re-purpose the dry dock to support renewable energy production, we believe the dry dock should also be listed to pre-empt any future proposal to infill the dock.
We call upon Inverclyde Council, Historic Environment Scotland and Peel Ports to abandon the plans to demolish the cranes and support the listing of Inchgreen dry dock and its cranes.
