The issues contained in the petition, while very important to our society, were not discussed during the recent federal election campaign. Once again, our politicians have preferred to debate on everyday things, mostly superficial, instead of focusing on the fundamental issues that could really perfect how to approach positive change in Canada at a time when the world is moving.

At present the tax laws are based on the taxation of the income of mining companies that melt in the sun of several tax deductions.

The introduction of quantitative royalties on all natural resources exploited in Canada and fair financial compensation to cover environmental damage caused by mining companies are missing from current political discourse. 

I would also like to highlight a second issue that is missing from the current political discourse, namely, a modern, written and perfectible Constitution for Canada. Our politicians who are afraid to even talk about it are pending the current election campaign, as in all electoral champagnes of the last 30 years. Perhaps now is the time to bring them into public discussion, to draw the attention of our cautious politicians to the really important issues for our society.
