Speaking Out for Those Who Can’t

Concerned IVCF Alumni
Oct 18, 2016
Friends, Thank you again for your support as concerned alumni trying to send a message to InterVarsity. In the days since news about the #InterVarsityPurge went public, courageous students and staffers have come forward to explain what this policy is, what it means, and how it was created. But we know that the people most affected by the new “involuntary termination” policy are afraid to speak out, or even to ask questions, lest it cost them the jobs that let them put food on their families’ tables. We know this, because they’ve told us, and they want you to know how grateful they are that you’re speaking out on their behalf. This policy was meant to end the conversation, and we know from the failure of InterVarsity’s leadership to respond to public inquiries that they wish we would just go away and let it happen. They’re hoping that if they can just wait long enough, people will move on to the next story, the next hashtag. But we won’t give up so easily. There’s more of this story to tell. Justin Lee of the Gay Christian Network put on his investigative reporter hat to track down the documents and stories behind this policy, and has made a video explaining everything you need to know, including why InterVarsity’s press release about the Time article can’t be the last word. Watch and share! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti9YnVivplc Sojourners Magazine went in-depth to understand “The Roots of InterVarsity's Line in the Sand on LGBTQ Inclusion,” illuminating the dangers of this new mandate to “believe and behave,” or be removed. https://sojo.net/articles/roots-intervarsitys-line-sand-homosexuality Finally, we’re tracking news articles, videos, blog posts, petitions, and other responses to #InterVarsityPurge at gcn.re/ivresponse.
