I am contacting you to ask you to please share this petition with friends, family, and local news outlets to try and have as many eyes on horse welfare as possible.
Just YESTERDAY, in its dressage review at the Paris Olympics 2024, the FEI has found examples of horses with blue tongues in photographs taken. The FEI did not take any disciplinary measures as a result of the images and the findings will not affect the dressage results.
These are some examples of the riders who have been eliminated from the games or given warnings due to welfare issues with their horses:
- Marcus Orlob (US) - Eliminated on 30 July 2024 - his horse, Jane, tried to refuse to enter the stadium, demonstrated by her backing, spinning and half-rearing. He was ultimately eliminated due to "blood on the inside of the horse’s right hind fetlock".
- Emiliano Portale (Italy) - Eliminated on 27 July 2024 - Eliminated from the Olympics after his horse was found to be bleeding from the mouth following the evening dressage qualifiers.
- Carlos Parro (Brazil) - Warned on 27 July 2024 - the Brazilian dressage rider has been issued a warning by the FEI for potentially causing “unnecessary discomfort” to his horse Safira.
Who can justify taking enjoyment in these "sports" when the evidence of cruelty and horse suffering is so strong!
