Thank you for supporting our campaign to get our landlord Harrow Council to carry out long overdue retrofit works to our homes.
A lot has happened since we launched our petition. The Council engaged with our campaign and agreed to use money from central government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Scheme to retrofit our homes, including roof and external wall insulation.
In January 2025, works begun on the first cluster of homes. The tenants in these properties report that they can already feel the difference from the roof insulation - the upper floor is much warmer than it used to be. Once the external wall insulation is complete, the difference in temperature - and in energy bills! - should be even more noticeable.
Our campaign is not over yet. The current works only affect a handful of properties. Harrow Council's Assistant Director for Homes has confirmed that all Bancroft Gardens council homes will be retrofitted, but this could take over a year and we will have to monitor the works carefully to make sure they are of a good standard. But we are on the path to victory.
Insulating Bancroft Gardens is a win for all of us. It will mean warmer homes, improved health, reduced carbon emissions, and lower heating bills.
After decades of suffering, it was only by getting organised, making collective demands to Harrow Council, and instructing solicitors that we were able to finally make progress.
Thank you again for signing our petition.
