Institute School Resource Officers in All Westport Public Schools

Institute School Resource Officers in All Westport Public Schools
The Issue
WHEREAS it is the right of every child to receive an education in a positive, safe, protected and secure environment, free from disturbance, threat or other potential adverse situations, both from within or outside a school; to receive instruction, skills and avenues of reporting to deal with social issues such as smoking, drugs, bullying, etc.; to foster a closer, positive relationship with both school administration and the Westport police department from a very early age; therefore:
We, the undersigned, are concerned Westport citizens who urge our leaders to act now to support the Westport Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Palmer’s initiative for the creation of a School Resource Officer position, to be filled by a fully-trained, armed, Westport police officer in each school within the Westport school district. Such position to report to both the Superintendent as well as the Westport Chief of Police.
