Institute creel limit and slot limit for skipjack herring in Alabama!

In an effort to protect our Alabama fisheries from the overharvesting of one of its most important baitfish the skipjack herring I would ask that you join me in petitioning our state lawmakers to institute the following:

A 50 fish per person per day creel limit on skipjack herring in Alabama waters.

A slot limit of 11" - 15" on any skipjack herring caught in Alabama waters.

This will allow the population of skipjack herring that are locked between dams on the Tennessee river to flourish for years to come. People are coming to the Tennessee river waters in northern Alabama in droves each year and catching skipjack herring at such exponential rates that our fisheries will not be able to sustain a healthy population if it keeps up. The slot limit will also allow the harvesting of quality skipjack while at the same time let the large females be thrown back to reproduce and in turn help maintain the fishery as well.
