Install speed bumps in Krymekaar and Soekmekaar
The Issue
I’ve lived in Krymekaar for many years now, and I've seen firsthand the numerous accidents and close calls that occur because of speeding vehicles. The roads in our community are not just thoroughfares but lifelines that connect us all, including our children walking to school, elderly people heading to the market, and families enjoying a day out.
Despite the growing number of incidents, measures to control speeding have been insufficient. Speed bumps are an effective measure to calm traffic and enhance road safety. A study by the Traffic Injury Prevention journal emphasizes that speed bumps can reduce aggressive driving behaviors by almost 54%. This statistic alone provides a compelling argument for why we need these installations in Krymekaar and Soekmekaar.
The communities of Krymekaar and Soekmekaar have witnessed too many preventable accidents, and the current measures are not enough. Speed bumps have been a solution widely adopted in towns across South Africa to keep streets safe. Not only do they encourage safer driving speeds, but they also bring the added benefit of reducing traffic noise, creating a more peaceful environment for all residents.
Installing speed bumps would not require extensive financial resources, and the benefits far outweigh the costs. Several companies offer affordable solutions and often, the local municipalities are willing to share the expense when there's enough community backing. It’s essential that our public officials listen to our concerns and collaborate with residents to prioritize road safety.
By signing this petition, you're joining a collective voice aimed at making Krymekaar and Soekmekaar safer for all community members. Every signature will amplify our demand for a safer environment, pushing the local authorities to act swiftly. Please join me in urging the municipal government to consider and implement traffic calming solutions like speed bumps in these areas.
