The Issue

Our village streets must be a safe haven for families, children, the elderly, and our beloved pets. Unfortunately, reckless driving and extreme speeding have turned our shared community spaces into hazardous zones.
Recently, a heartbreaking tragedy occurred right in the 15 mph zone where community members frequently cross the street to reach the Papaniyok store. A pickup truck traveling at high speed struck and killed two cherished community dogs as they crossed the street just steps ahead of their human companions.
This devastating loss of life is a final, urgent warning. A 15 mph speed limit is a vital boundary meant to protect lives, yet signage alone is failing to stop speeding drivers. If we do not act immediately to change the physical structure of the road, a human fatality is inevitable.
We cannot wait for another tragedy to strike our neighbors, friends, or children. We demand that Mayor Chargualaf partner with the DPW to implement structural traffic calming measures, specifically high-visibility speed bumps, to force reckless drivers to slow down and respect our village boundaries.
Please sign this petition to ask for safer roads for Inalåhan and sends a signal to other villages too regarding safety in the neighborhoods and communities. Your signature is a powerful voice protecting our community's future.
