Thanks for your support everyone! The Park Board commissioners have been made aware of the petition and it is having an impact!

The fate of the project will be determined at the Vancouver Park Board meeting on Monday Nov 27 at 6:30 PM.

The report on the project has been posted here: https://parkboardmeetings.vancouver.ca/2023/20231127/REPORT-KillarneyTrackFieldUpgrades-ConceptPlan-20231127.pdf

There are 2 further ways you can show your support for a natural grass infield:

1. Contact the Park Board Commissioners

  • You can either email them collectively, or individually
    (Brennan.Bastyovanszky@vancouver.ca; Laura.Christensen@vancouver.ca; Tom.Digby@vancouver.ca; Angela.Haer@vancouver.ca; Marie-Claire.Howard@vancouver.ca; Scott.Jensen@vancouver.ca; Jas.Virdi@vancouver.ca)

  • Or you can use the contact form here: https://vancouver.ca/your-government/contact-park-board.aspx
    • Type of request: Park Board Meeting
    • Park Board meeting topic: Killarney Track & Field Upgrades
    • Select one…: Support
    • Provide park name: Killarney Park
    • Provide details: [something to the effect of: As a member of the track & field community it's important that we have at least 1 Class A facility capable of hosting competitions and facilitating throwing events. Please vote in for "Option A: Infield Material - Natural grass"]
[if you can add a sentence or two about why this project is important to you, or impacts you, even better!]
    • [add your contact info]

2. Attend the Park Board Meeting on Monday at 6:30 PM at 2099 Beach Avenue (Stanley Park near tennis courts).

  • Having more members of the track & field community in the audience could go a long way to showing that the community is behind natural grass. Several other sports groups have done this in the past and it has made an material impact
  • If possible, please wear a jacket, hoody, etc from your Club or School track team to make it visibly clear that you are a member of the track & field community supporting natural grass.
