Thank you for reaching out about your concerns at the intersection of Sturdevant and West 42nd Street. I appreciate your advocacy for neighborhood safety and the time you’ve taken to raise awareness about this issue. This intersection is located in Ward 7, where the current alderperson is Mhisho Lynch. She is the best person to contact directly to begin the process of requesting an all-way stop or other traffic control measures.

You can reach Alderman Lynch at:

 563-888-2066 (office)

In Davenport, when residents request changes to traffic signaling or signage like an all-way stop, the process starts with their alderperson, who can initiate a traffic study through the City’s transportation department. Those studies are guided by the national transportation manual, which sets criteria for whether a stop sign is warranted based on factors such as traffic speed, number of accidents, and traffic flow patterns.

It’s also worth noting that stop signs aren’t always the most effective solution for slowing traffic or improving safety in every case, but a formal study is the best way to determine the right approach for this intersection.

The most effective way to advocate is for several residents in the area to reach out personally—sending emails or making calls to Alderman Lynch and copying other neighbors who share the concern.

Alderman Lynch is not running for re-election, and a new Ward 7 alderperson will take office in January. It would be helpful to make sure this issue is on the radar of both the current alderperson and the incoming representative. Reaching out early—before and after the November 4 election—will ensure your concern remains visible as new leadership transitions in.

Thank you again for speaking up about safety in your community. It’s never too early to bring these issues forward, and your continued engagement helps make Davenport’s neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Respectfully,
Marion Meginnis
