Install air conditioning in every classroom
The Issue
For students at our International school, including myself, the rising temperatures have made it increasingly difficult to concentrate during classes. This unrelenting heat affects our ability to engage with lessons and perform at our best, especially as it soars during the late spring and summer months. Ensuring that we have a conducive learning environment is crucial for us to succeed academically.
Many research studies underscore the importance of a comfortable temperature in boosting cognitive performance. According to a report by the National Bureau of Economic Research, student performance declines when temperatures rise above 21°C (69.8°F). This link between learning outcomes and classroom temperature cannot be ignored. Yet, currently, many of our classrooms lack proper ventilation and air conditioning, creating an oppressive atmosphere that hampers our education.
In the context of our rigorous IB curriculum, where preparing for global university standards is key, we simply cannot afford to have avoidable distractions hinder our focus. Our education is important not just for personal growth but for future contributions to society as innovative thinkers and leaders.
One actionable solution involves the installation of energy-efficient air conditioning units in each classroom. This investment will not only provide immediate relief but also enhance the overall mental and physical well-being of students and teachers alike.
We urge the school administration to prioritize this essential improvement. By addressing this need, our school can demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the educational experience and welfare of all its students. Such a step will ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to achieve excellence, regardless of the weather conditions.
Please sign this petition to advocate for air conditioning in every classroom and help create a more optimal learning environment for all students. Your support is crucial in bringing about this much-needed change.
