How you can help further bolster this campaign for a Pedestrian Crossing & double yellow lines
Thank you for your support of this campaign for improved pedestrian safety on Marlcliffe Road!
346 local residents have signed the petition since it was created three days ago; there is clearly a high demand for greater protection for pedestrians crossing this road, including a high number of children.
Here are some ideas for how YOU can further bolster the campaign:
REPORT DANGEROUS DRIVING AND DANGEROUS PARKING.
I've been told that the council uses a points-based system when considering the addition of road improvements such as Pedestrian Crossings and double yellow lines, and the points are based on the number of reported incidents. Therefore, by actually reporting dangerous driving and dangerous parking, we can ALL increase the likelihood of a Pedestrian Crossing and double yellow lines being installed on Marlcliffe Road.
Photos of dangerous parking (including obstructions, parking too close to the junction, or parking that forces pedestrians to take unnecessary risks) should be emailed to opparksafe@southyorks.pnn.police.uk . Remember to show the vehicle registration number in your photo.
Videos of dangerous driving / speeding vehicles can be uploaded to the police at https://smartcontact.southyorkshire.police.uk/advice/driving-complaint/
WRITE A COMMENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PETITION
Write a comment at the bottom of the petition explaining why you want a pedestrian crossing and double yellow lines installed, and how speeding and dangerous parking on this street affects you. I’ll present all of the petition comments to the council at one of their committee meetings, so the more comments about this junction being dangerous, the better!
REQUEST A SPEED CAMERA
To request a speed camera on Marlcliffe Road and/or Wadsley Lane, go to this page and complete a short form: https://www.safetycamera.org/report-concerns-about-speeding
The Hillsborough Community Speedwatch Group (on Facebook) collected data which established that a whopping 82.73% of motorists exceeded the speed limit on Marlcliffe Road when they were there (as compared to 14.57% on Taplin Road and 22.68% on Dykes Lane). You could mention this data when completing the form!
CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR AND MP
Email your Councillor Toby Mallinson (toby.mallinson@councillor.sheffield.gov.uk) and MP Gill Furniss (gill.furniss.mp@parliament.uk), letting them know about your concerns about speeding and dangerous parking on Marlcliffe Road, and explaining why you support the petition for a Pedestrian Crossing and double yellow lines. CC these two email addresses into your email for extra impact: (1) highways@sheffield.gov.uk (2) traffic.regs@sheffield.gov.uk
SHARE THE PETITION
Share the petition with friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues and ask them to sign it, especially if they are personally affected by dangerous driving and dangerous parking on Marlcliffe Road (eg. if they have children at the nursery or primary school).
Thanks for your support! I'll send further updates on the progress of this campaign in the future.
