Hello everyone
Thank you for bringing this petition over the next threshold: 50,000 signatures and now steadily going towards 60,000!
A few updates. On Tuesday, I had a conversation with Facebook Policy, who seem open to hearing from different communities about their experiences with moderation of nudity / sexuality in the new year. More info here. I'm still trying to figure out how this can happen, but the idea would be for each community to take the lead in gathering testimonies and experiences for a consultation. If you have any ideas on how to do this effectively and safely for everyone involved, get in touch.
To be clear: as written in my blog post about the ToS here and in Instagram's latest statement today, the Terms of Use incorporate guidelines and community standards that were there before, rewritten to give users more clarity (according to the platform). So while this Sunday (20 December) might not be the cut-off date for a variety of profiles to be kicked off IG, the platform's existing moderation policies already disproportionately affect a variety of accounts, and particularly sex workers.
Please continue signing and raising awareness! While this petition alone may not get Instagram to reverse their Community Standards, it's important for the platform to hear that there's a community interest for them to be reconsidered. Their recent Twitter update may mean they've started listening.
