Thank you to the nearly 45 signatories!

Please share the petition as widely as you can on social media, email and by word of mouth. If you can, do mention East Midlands Railway, Cross Country trains, TrentBartonLand, Arriva Midlands East and Derby City Council on Facebook on your posts that share the petition.

It needs to be brought to the attention of residents throughout Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Leicester and all those who might be travelling by train to Derby.

I expect that this would become the most intensively used shuttle bus in Britain. A shuttle bus is about as much of a "quick win" as can be gained.

On Tuesday 16th April, the government announced that it would in principle be ordering the full 10 trains (of 9-10 carriages each) necessary to keep the Alstom Derby train building plant open. But 90 to 100 carriages is a fraction of what the plant has produced per year. The cycle of feast and famine for train orders must be ended!

New regional trains are desperately needed outside of London, including here in the East Midlands. A Derby rail station shuttle bus would increase the convenience of the local rail network, especially towards Nottingham, thus more than justifying more carriages. My understanding is that nowhere else in Britain has a higher capacity to produce such trains than Derby.

Getting around Derby is difficult and time consuming without a car at any time, and with a car in and around the peak hours. If you don't have a storage area for a bike (e.g. you live in a flat), nor safe cycle routes, you are even more disadvantaged.

I stopped cycling in December, because the cycle lane in Derby city centre is closed due to roadworks, and the closest roads to me are an aggressive, constrained and dangerous environment in which to be a cyclist. The riverside path is inadequately wide and has a deeply concerning low arch where it passes under the railway, risking head on collisions between cyclists.

For cycling to become safe, the volume of traffic must be reduced first. This is why it is so vital to improve bus and train services.

This situation must not be allowed to continue! It is very draining to me, almost every day. I can't plan ahead easily, because the buses are so complex and unpredictable, and insufficiently frequent to and from Derby Railway Station after 6pm. On Sunday evenings it is worse still!

The shuttle bus would be extremely useful to Derby College students and people (such as myself) who work in Pride Park. This means using the footbridge to pass through Derby Railway Station.

Regards,

Ben
