Friends,
I intend for this to be the second-to-last update. I have invited Keith and his family, his lawyer Elliot Slosar, and Caleb Walden (who ran the Pardon Keith Cooper Facebook page) to offer anything they want to communicate with you. That will be the conclusion of this petition page.
For those who want to keep up with Keith's case as it moves forward, such as clearing up the battery charge and getting compensation: I am joining with Caleb Walden to transform the Pardon Keith Cooper to a page of news updates on his case as well as related issues of justice as they come from either Elkhart County or the Indiana Attorney General. (The Exoneration Project has begun work on yet another case of wrongful conviction from Elkhart County. There is something wrong going on in that county, I must say.) If you would like to follow this, join the Pardon Keith Cooper page, which will soon have a new name: https://www.facebook.com/PardonKeithCooper/
I have said that this update would be primarily links to news reports about the pardon. That was before I realized just how many reports there have been.
WTHR in Indianapolis has posted the news conference from Friday, which you can find in the update link. It's also available at this Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/WTHR13/videos/10154620444616144/. It lasts about 33 minutes.
Various sites provide a link to the pardon document itself. I've read it from the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette: http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/indiana/Holcomb-pardons-Keith-Cooper-17715083. You can read the document from the pdf download at the top of the article.
Since the pardon, there have been 31 new signatures on this petition. I don't mind, but I sure hope people have heard the news: Keith has been pardoned!
Again, the last update will come soon.
Cheers,
Jack Heller
