Friends,
Our greatest results in this effort have come when we have forced government officials--Pence, Hill, and the candidates--to respond to us. Their responses have not always been what we've wanted, but they did help us to get Keith's story out to the public.
As I've noted before, Governor Holcomb has pledged to review Keith's case, and if the facts warrant his actions, he would "move quickly" on granting Keith a pardon. I hate to be impatient, but exactly how long does it take to have a pardon written up and signed? Holcomb may have only been in office for two weeks, but Keith has been wrongly convicted for twenty years.
I have created a Facebook event page for a call-in day on Thursday, January 26. Ideally, I would like for a few thousand people to try to call. If we jam up the phone, that's okay. The governor's office needs to know that we take justice seriously, and it is time for justice to be done for Keith. I've linked the Facebook event to this update. Please join it, share it, and invite your friends.
Don't worry about calling from outside of Indiana. The governor's office needs to know that we care about this from around the country. If you try and can't get through on the phone, that's okay; please try again on Friday. I just want a day when every call is a "Keith Cooper" call.
It may be that the people answering the phone will be the same people who answered the calls back in August and September, while Mike Pence was governor. Make sure they know that you know that Governor Holcomb made a promise to review the case and to pardon Keith. The answers they gave back in 2016 no longer apply in 2017. There's a new governor, and he has promised something different from Mike Pence. We are wanting to hold him to his promise.
Let's have a day of action. Your help with this will be greatly appreciated. I also think you help with this can be greatly effective. I know of a television station in Indianapolis already interested in doing a story on Keith in February. Let's give them a story to tell.
Onward, friends!
Jack Heller
