Make the Jungle trail Safe - Update #11

A big thank you to those who attended yesterday's MPO meeting. We had about 15 supporters, 7 of whom spoke on behalf of the proposal to Make the Jungle Trail Safe! Thanks also to those of you who sent emails. Unfortunately it seems that leadership at the MPO and particularly members of the BCC are still stuck in the past where “cars are king” and pedestrian/bicycle issues are at best a footnote in transportation plans. Commissioner Flescher states that he received “a lot” of feedback for keeping the JT as it is but offered no details on the number or types of communications he received. There is clearly a lack of leadership and even hostility towards pedestrian/bicycle safety issues at the BCC. Is it no wonder Florida has the sad distinction of ranking first in the nation in pedestrian/bicycle accidents/deaths?
