Prof Vipin Veetil resigned from IIT Madras because of caste-based discrimination in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department. This is just one of the cases of caste-based discrimination that has come to light, with most cases going unreported. We need a strong protective and redressal mechanism at all IITs to ensure the wellbeing of academics and students from marginalised communities.
