My one year anniversary of starting this petition has just passed. It took me back to the thoughts and feelings that were the catalyst to this petition and the inevitable question.....is there progress? Yes absolutely, I continue to challenge and correct the on going issues. But in reality significant change takes time and especially with large organisations the cogs turn at a snails pace.
My IPCC inquiry is due to finally complete in March it's timescale impeded greatly by the potential leak within Gloucestershire Police. That investigate too is in it's final stages.
Last week saw the completion of an investigation report into Wiltshire Police Officers failures regarding another victim of the same perpetrator. Devastating detail of failing to record, safeguard and poor supervision. Couple this with just 9 minutes training and officers loosing their work books ( containing sensitive vital data ) it was worrying enough. But their lack of apology, reflective practice and dismissive response is deeply concerning.
I was the child in that process that no safeguarding was done to protect. The invisible little girl. Placing a paedophile back in my home when I finally thought I was safe. I literally shiver at the thought of that time. But to finally know now that the police were aware, knew his potential for harm and did nothing is appalling.
So next we face the findings......... wonder what's to come?
Regardlessly no matter how devastating, shocking or traumatic the detail is within it all I hope to find opportunities for reflection, learning and change. Because that's where victims like me find their power, choice and healing.
