The government has decided to increase the retirement age of employees working in public sector undertakings (PSUs) from 60 to 62 years, effective from April 1, 2023. The move will benefit about 1.5 lakh workers in various PSUs, including Airports Authority of India (AAI), banking institutions, railways, power and telecom sectors. The decision was taken after considering the recommendations of a high-level committee, which suggested that raising the retirement age would help retain experienced and skilled manpower, reduce the pension burden and align the PSUs with the central government's policy.
