It’s been a few months since the last update. I’m still on this and meeting with whom I can when I can, but I’m just one person. 1000 more signatures in 12 hours helps.
This latest incident again shows the flaws in the current safety of the highway. The previous updates and articles all talk about points we are trying to update
- lack of speed controls. Cops are out more often but can’t be everywhere
- divided highway being non existent could have prevent this incident entirely
- poor communication from DriveBC.

At least include a summary of what’s happening (I don’t care if it’s a copy and paste list of the SOP that ICARS has to follow to do the investigation) but communicate to people. It’s always dragging them along with a tease if something in another hour. In the meantime this was almost 8 hours of delay. Just turn people back. Send them back to Squamish and Whistler, stop allowing them to leave and go that far south only to sit I. Traffic more and more
- we don’t have ICARS resources locally (that I’m aware of) so it all has to come from Surrey
- block traffic and stop people from departing Squamish or Whistler. Why allow it to back up to thousands of cars sitting in the cold and dark?
- increase the amount of turnaround points and include gates that emergency service / miller cap can open to turn back traffic
these are the same issues over and over again.
